The boys of the Bana Ya Poveda Center have celebrated in a special way the feast of St. Pedro Poveda and continue with enthusiasm their education, working in the garden, in their job training, in the computer classroom... rebuilding their lives above all.
At the end of this month of August, some of the children will be reunited with their families and are preparing the meeting with enthusiasm. The “reunification” is the moment of returning to their families after a period of living on the streets from where they were fostered by the Center and, after a process of accompaniment and with various aids, they feel that they can return and make a path of reintegration.
We educators are happy that they can return to their families and continue with their studies and learning a trade.
Cybercafé
On July 28, we celebrated our holder and remembered all the people who know and loves him. We inaugurated a new workshop: the cyber-café financed by Paco Arango, president of the Aladina Foundation. We met him through the Foundation El Pájaro Azul that also helps us a lot. It is impossible to describe the joy and pride of the children and young people at having a cybercafé at the Center to learn computers and for other children and young people in the neighborhood to also use it.
Faith journey
We have also worked on the faith journey of the kids and on July 4, a large group of them received their first communion, the party lived up to their joy and energy.
That same day we inaugurated the picture of Pedro Poveda on the outside wall of the Center, thus fulfilling the desire of the children, youth and educators, to make Father Poveda known to the people who pass by on the street, so that they can turn to his effective intercession, according to the children.
Harvesting
This season, after the harvest of peanuts, we have had those of corn, sweet potatoes and snow (small beans). At the moment, the amount we are producing is still much lower than our needs, but we are very happy to see that little by little everything is progressing favorably.
The Bana Ya Poveda Center in Kinshasa, with support from the Teresian Association, is dedicated to the educational and professional training of street children whom it welcomes and accompanies to achieve their social reintegration and reintegration into their families when possible.
