TA members and friends in Jerusalem joined together on the feast of St. Theresa to celebrate the golden jubilee of the priestly ordination of the Nuncio to Israel and Cyprus and Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine, Filipino Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana.

It was an opportunity to give thanks for a life of trust in Divine Providence, of selfless service to God and the Church, throughout his fifty years of priesthood.

The Filipino migrant-workers of the Bible Study Group in Jerusalem with members of the Teresian Association celebrated the Eucharist in thanksgiving for the Nuncio’s golden jubilee.

Fr. Nikodemus Schnable, OSB, Vicar of migrant-workers concelebrated with the Nuncio during this blessed occasion.

More than 30 migrants joined the festive celebration which also included a local Christian who currently serves at Bethlehem University, where Arch. Tito Yllana is the Chancellor as well.

Words of thanksgiving of the Nuncio were read in the opening remarks of the Mass, as follows:

“How could I imagine or think that I would be right here, where the source of my priesthood is? I was ordained in the Philippines in 1972 and I am here celebrating in 2022, right where the Lord instituted the sacrifice of the Eucharist and the priesthood. It is indeed a joy I have not deserved… Just as I have not deserved anything in these fifty years. If I have made it to these fifty years, it is because God has manifested His grace to me, not because of my own merit. It is He who has always supported His priest.”

Indeed, on this feast day of St. Teresa of Avila, how can we not echo her words, Solo Dios basta, God alone suffices? These are the words that inspired us today, peering into the life of this great Saint of Avila, especially as we witness in others and experience in our lives this reality of faith and trust in God’s loving Providence and His unceasing care for those He loves.
