On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the encyclical Laudato Si', a 10-hour contemplative vigil will take place on 25 January (from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.). Online participation is possible and people can join in at whatever time suits them.
This contemplative vigil has been called by the Laudato Si' Movement (LSM) which was founded in 2015. The LSM arose from two events that changed the response of the Church and humanity to the ecological crisis -- the publication of the encyclical Laudato Si' (the first papal encyclical focused on the crisis happening on our planetary home) and the Paris Climate Agreement.
This movement has had a clear mission from the very beginning, and that is ‘To inspire and mobilise the Catholic community to care for our common home and to achieve climate and ecological justice, in partnership with all people of goodwill.’
To mark the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si', LSM is holding this vigil with the following motto -- Contemplation heals: at the root of our ecological crisis is a spiritual crisis.
How will the vigil unfold?
Each hour of contemplation at this event will be led by a quote from Laudato Si'. Throughout the vigil there will be songs, times of silence and communion, readings and images. Several languages will also be used, so we invite you to sit in contemplation and union with others whenever a language other than your own is being used.
