Since 24 June, Venezuela has been facing the consequences of two earthquakes that have severely affected numerous families and communities. Through people linked to the Teresian Association in Caracas, we have learnt of urgent needs for support in the affected areas.

With the specialist assistance of InteRed, the IT is establishing a channel to channelling donations transparently and effectively.

The InteRed Foundation has a long history of working in Venezuela, where it supported initiatives and projects alongside local partner organisations between 2000 and 2018, particularly in the fields of transformative education and emergency response. Building on this shared history, we wish to express our solidarity with the people and communities affected.

Although InteRed does not currently have a direct presence in Venezuela, the contributions channelled through the Foundation will be allocated in full to the emergency humanitarian response in Venezuela and will be managed through the mechanisms and partner organisations that, at any given time, are legally viable and operationally appropriate within the country.

Donations will be used to address urgent basic needs in the San Bernardino area, where the Santa Teresa School in Caracas is located, and in nearby affected communities, according to information received from Caracas.

How to help

You can make your donation via the following Banco Sabadell emergency account:

Account holder: Fundación InteRed

SWIFT/BIC: BSCH ES MMXXX

Reference: Venezuela Emergency

The fundraising campaign will remain open until 31 July.

“You don’t need to be rich to give; it is enough to be a good person. A good person always finds something to give,” wrote Pedro Poveda in 1912 to some young women from Linares who were asking for the means to set up a school for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. We might well ask ourselves what Poveda would say today in the face of the images, reports and appeals for help… in the face of the humanitarian disaster we are witnessing.
