The summer encounters that take place every year in Holguín (Cuba) were held again in 2025. On this occasion, 35 educators and 16 theology students from all the vicariate areas of the city's diocese participated.

These encounters have been held since 2010 and are organised by diocesan teams under the guidance of the Teresian Association.

The Biblical-Theological Course is a three-year formation process that involves four face-to-face encounters per year, with personalised follow-up, assignments and accompaniment for spiritual and human integration.

Theologian Carmen Aparicio, a member of the TA Governing Council, worked with the participants, teaching topics related to Sacred Scripture and Theology. The encounter was held at the Saint Arnold Janssen Centre for Lay Formation and took place from 30 June to 5 July.

In October and November, encounters will be held in the areas with Araceli Cantero for spiritual and human integration.

Workshops

This year, various workshops were also offered on topics such as the environment, expressive arts, and spiritual intelligence in children. There were also cultural tours of the city.

The Summer School for Educators took place from 29 July to 1 August. Participants, representing 21 communities, enrolled in one of the workshops offered and attended an opening lecture given by Dr. Rosemarie Kamke, entitled: ‘Saint Pedro Poveda: a Pedagogy for Times of Transition’.

The Summer School diplomas were awarded during the closing Mass and Jubilee of Educators in Saint Isidore Cathedral, presided over by Father Daylon Lisabet.

Nestor Toledo Lage, from the Diocesan Commission for Education, highlighted that ‘among the participants there was a desire and eagerness for the next encounter in 2026’.
