As part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pedro Poveda, members and friends of the Teresian Association in Linares (Jaén) held a series of events.

conferencia linares elisa

On 13 June, Elisa Estévez, a member of the TA and of the Governing Council, gave a talk in which she explored paths of lay spirituality based on the writings of Pedro Poveda.

In her talk, she invited us to contemplate the vulnerability that dwells within us, both our own and that of those around us, in order to work on our capacity to heal wounds, to suffer with others, to increase our own and others' capacity to suffer, which establishes one type of relationship or another.

She also referred to the texts on the wounds of Christ, which Poveda wrote in 1934. The invitation to inhabit the wounds of Christ leads us to visualise a vulnerable God, a wounded God who can heal wounds.

She then addressed a fundamental theme in the TA, namely the clarity of formation and study as a means of critically understanding reality.

It was a moment to appreciate the richness of Spirituality and, from there, to continue renewing the desire to advance in one's own union with Christ.
