The Community of Saint Pedro Poveda, part of the Parish of the Holy Family of Nazareth in Taquaritinga (São Paulo, Brazil), celebrated the feast of Saint Pedro Poveda once again on 28 July. More than a hundred people took part in the Mass and the procession that followed.
Feast of Saint Pedro Poveda in São Paulo
The celebration of the feast of Saint Pedro Poveda took place on 28 July in the hall of the São Pedro Poveda Community, a recently completed building funded by donations. The Mass was presided over by the parish priest, Rev. Daniel Bento Bejo, and was also attended by Deacon Sergio Ferreira. More than 100 people took part, including families involved in the project and members of the community. Also present were the Secretary for Education of Taquaritinga, school principals, teachers and educators.
Following the Mass, Father Daniel bestowed a special blessing on teachers and educators, a tradition of the community as a symbolic gesture of commitment to education. Afterwards, a prize draw was held for those who had received the blessing, with five copies of Pedro Poveda’s book ‘Living Like the First Christians’ to be won.
At the end of the celebration, a procession took place through the streets of the neighbourhood, followed by a prayer and hymn to Saint Pedro Poveda traditionally sung by the Community on 28 July.
To bring the festive celebration to a close, the community gathered for a time of fellowship and sharing, strengthening their bonds and the spirituality inspired by the charism of Saint Pedro Poveda, in gratitude for the blessings received by the community this year.
The Taquaritinga Community
The Community of Saint Peter Poveda belongs to the Parish of the Holy Family of Nazareth, located in Taquaritinga, a city in the interior of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Rev. José Adalberto Salvini founded it in 2003. He was a priest who was deeply devoted to Pedro Poveda and a close friend of the Teresian Association.
In the simplicity of the countryside, they have deep devotion to Pedro Poveda and carry out charitable work with children, young people and their families through a project called ‘De Mãos Dadas’. It is a social project funded solely by donations. Each week, the meetings begin with a prayer and cover topics such as evangelisation, educational activities, art workshops, ecology, dance, crochet, cookery, games with children and sports. All the activities are run by various volunteers. At the end of the meetings, a meal is served to the children, and basic food parcels are handed out to the families. .

Celebração da festa de São Pedro Poveda em Taquaritinga, São Paulo – Brasil
A Comunidade São Pedro Poveda pertence à Paróquia Sagrada Familia de Nazaret, localizada em Taquaritinga, cidade no interior do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Foi criada em 2003 pelo Padre José Adalberto Salvini, um sacerdote muito devoto de Pedro Poveda e amigo próximo da Instituição Teresiana. Nesta simplicidade do interior do país, vivem uma intensa devoção a Pedro Poveda e mantém um trabalho assistencial com meninos(as), jovens e suas famílias em um projeto que se chama “De Mãos Dadas”. É um projeto social financiado unicamente com doações. Cada semana os encontros começam com uma oração, desenvolvem temas de evangelização, atividades educativas, oficinas de arte, ecologia, dança, crochet, culinária, jogos com meninos e meninas e esportes. Todas as atividades são oferecidas por voluntários. Ao final dos encontros se serve um almoço para as crianças, muitas vezes com entregas de cestas básicas de alimentos para as famílias.
A celebração da festa de Pedro Poveda ocorreu no dia 28 de julho no pavilhão da Comunidade São Pedro Poveda, construção recém terminada com financiamento através de doações. A Eucaristia foi presidida pelo pároco, Padre Daniel Bento Bejo, e contou também com a presença do Diácono Sergio Ferreira. Tivemos a participação de mais de 100 pessoas, entre famílias do projeto e membros da comunidade. Estiveram presentes, inclusive, a Secretária da Educação de Taquaritinga, diretoras escolares, professores e educadores. Após a Eucaristia o Padre Daniel ministrou a bênção especial aos professores e educadores, tradição da comunidade como gesto simbólico de compromisso com a educação. Em seguida, para os que receberam a benção, foi feito o sorteio de cinco exemplares do livro “Viver como os primeiros cristãos” de Pedro Poveda.
Ao final da celebração, realizamos a procissão pelas ruas do bairro, seguida da Oração e do Hino a São Pedro Poveda, tradicionalmente cantado pela Comunidade no dia 28 de julho.
Para encerrar a noite, a comunidade se reuniu em um momento fraterno de confraternização e compartir, reforçando os laços da comunidade e a espiritualidade inspirada no carisma de São Pedro Poveda, em ação de graças pelas bençãos recebidas pela comunidade neste ano.
