The Teresian Association president’s letter for the year 2024 is entitled “With roots in the gift received, new beginnings, new calls”.
Gregoria Ruiz, TA president, addresses her letter to all members, co-workers, friends, families and everyone who shares the charism of Saint Pedro Poveda.
This letter takes as its starting point the centenary of the approval given by the Church to the association founded by Poveda. We will celebrate this on 11 January 2024. “Throughout the years, many individuals and varied groups have responded to and made their own the ideal proposed by Poveda, that of a fully human life, perfected by the divine, modelling their lives on that of Jesus – the Son of God made man”, the TA president wrote.
Come home
The Letter has two distinct parts. The first section asks us “to come home”. We are encouraged to read again the basic writings we have received from St Pedro Poveda. One of these is a commentary on the Gospel of Matthew with the title “You are the salt of the earth”. We are asked to compare our lives with the way the early Christians lived theirs as described in the Acts of the Apostles and as commented on by Poveda.
Share our legacy
In the second part, the Letter focuses on “sharing our legacy”. We have to give responses that involve commitment to this fractured world and that are appropriate to the times in which we live. As committed lay people, TA members are being asked to renew their solidarity. We must defend human dignity, build peace and weave bonds of fellowship. This is a call to be in the heart of the world as individuals and as groups and communities. We must reach out beyond ourselves and set out on a journey, like Mary.
Gregoria Ruiz asks the Teresian Association to join in unity with the following prayer in 2024:
Thank you, Lord, for calling us to be your disciples; give us a discerning heart that always seeks to follow your will.
