Elsa Tueros is conferred with the title ‘professor emerita’ of the Academic Department of Education in the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
On 20 June 2023, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru honoured Elsa Tueros with the title of professor emerita. The ceremony was very moving because it recognized Elsa as the person that she is and as a professional and member of the Teresian Association.
It was said of her that her vocation as a teacher has led her not only to train professionals, but also to encourage transforming social initiatives, especially with those most in need. She is an educator committed to society and education in her country, and she inspired the teaching vocation and always believed in her students.
Diana Revilla Figueroa, Dean of the Faculty of Education said in her greeting:
I would like to mention a trait that is very characteristic of Elsa. It is one of the many qualities that those of us who have been her students and later colleagues and friends can share. To do so, I quote Saint Teresa of Avila, who is said to have been “eminently human yet belonging totally to God”. This phrase sums up who Elsa is. What is distinctive about her are her human qualities, her closeness, her joy, her trust and her commitment to each and every person, her ability to look to the future with optimism. Her hopeful outlook comes from her profoundly human heart (...) All of this is perfected in her because in the depths of her being “God dwells”. This is how we see Elsa living each event of the day with deep spirituality, as St Pedro Poveda would say, “a spirituality of incarnation”.
Carlos Garatea Grau, Rector of the University, noted with great affection that Elsa had the art of communicating with him at the right time, and that she had helped at difficult times during the pandemic.
Elsa was also recognised as a trainer of many generations of teachers who today serve the country in different fields and who bear much of her imprint.
We are all grateful to you for the tireless work you have done as a teacher with a spiritual and human touch. We consider you to be a great educator. We will always remember you with affection as an excellent point of reference and a great leader in education.
We thank God that you are here with us with your witness of fidelity. Thank you for inviting us to fulfil our mission to continue building the Kingdom of God.
