Léocadie Lushombo, a Congolese theologian and member of the Teresian Association, has been chosen to participate in one of the Synod's new advisory groups on Synodality.
The second session of the 15th Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will take place from 2-27 October 2024. Recently, the Holy See published a list of the ten groups that were appointed in response to a request from Pope Francis about collaboration between the dicasteries of the Roman Curia and the General Secretariat of the Synod. These groups, which can continue to function until 2025, are to address issues arising from the First Session of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. They are in addition to five other groups formed in March 2024 to study how to respond to the challenge of being a synodal Church in mission. 
The cry of the poor
Theologian Léocadie Lushombo was selected by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for the Service of Charity. Dr Lushombo is Professor of Theological Ethics at Santa Clara University (Berkeley, California, USA) and also teaches theology at the Catholic University of Congo. She is part of ‘Group 2: Listening to the cry of the poor’, a study group of eight people, including the two cardinals responsible for the above-mentioned dicasteries. 
Léocadie Lushombo, one of the top ten African women theologians of the moment, received her PhD in Theological Ethics from Boston College, USA, and holds several Masters degrees in theological ethics, sustainable development and economics and development. In the current synodal journey of the Church, she stresses the importance of women's preparation and participation, and that their space and leadership be recognised.
Theology and Ethics
Léocadie's area of research takes the perspective o Christian ethics and covers political theology, liberation theology, economics and Catholic social thought, African theological ethics and inculturation, non-violence and the ethics of just peace. She is a consultant and teacher on justice, peace and gender issues in Central Africa.
Dr. Lushombo has published numerous articles and is the author of A Christian and African Ethic of Women's Political Participation. Living as Risen Beings (2022). She has recently published with Beatrice Okyere-Manu, African Women's Liberating Philosophies, Theologies, and Ethics.
