The Pedro Poveda Higher Institute of Educational Studies (ISESP) in the Dominican Republic has held two training sessions on the Socio-Educational Proposal (PSE) of the Teresian Association. The second took place recently, in April, and the first was held in January.
ISESP has been carrying out a continuous and systematic training process with the academic and administrative staff on the Socio-Educational Proposal (PSE) put forward by the Teresian Association. It has all been done with joy, enthusiasm and a spirit of collaboration. Its aim is to bring about changes that commit its members to the mission of transformative education and the building of a new form of citizenship committed to collective well-being, especially in the most vulnerable sectors of society.
The first workshop with staff took place on 20 January 2026. The session focused on individual and collective reflection on the context, historical roots and meaning of the Socio-Educational Proposal.
The discussion was prompted by the following questions:
- What social and educationalfactorsmake the Socio-Educational Proposal relevant in our country today?
- What do these changing times suggest to us in terms of building hope and basic trust in social and educational systems?
- What new aspirations do these times inspire in us to create more humane and fair educational practices?
The second workshop with staff took place on 21 April 2026, in the ISESP Pedro Hernríquez Ureña building. Meaningful dialogue emerged from presentations prepared by teams from the three vice-rectorates of the ISESP, focusing on the key themes of the Socio-Educational Proposal:
- DialogueonFaith, Culture and Justice.
- Pedagogical humanism, centred on respect for human rights and the dignity of individuals.
- Training of educators committed to the social and educational transformation of theirenvironments.
The event was attended by vice-rectors Dr Lillian Castillo and Mariela Clime, a PhD candidate. Around 30 people were present including members of the academic team, department heads, coordinators and administrative staff from ISESP. PhD candidate Francisca del Carmen Ferreira Genao chaired the event.
The workshops took place in an atmosphere enriched by songs and videos related to the theme. There was a wide range of contributions and opinions on relevant topics linked to the pedagogical principles of Pedro Poveda Castroverde, founder of the Teresian Association. He is the inspiration behind the Socio-Educational Proposal and the good works that bear fruits of hope and life and that are undertaken by members and co-workers of the Teresian Association.
