The Pedro Poveda Foundation (FFP) in the municipality of Chinautla (Guatemala) has carried out a refurbishment of the rooms where it provides its educational services: the playroom, library and computer room.
“Thanks to this refurbishment, we now have more interactive spaces and open shelving to encourage children’s and teenagers’ interest, collaborative work and self-learning,” according to InteRed, the TA’s NGO which is providing technical support for this project, which is also funded by Madrid City Council.
Specifically, the library, playroom and computer room now feature new furniture and additional computers. At the same time, the catalogue of books and games has been updated to help promote values, attitudes and behaviours that foster cooperation, gender equality, intercultural understanding, environmental care and the holistic development of children.
Furthermore, a laboratory for scientific experiments and educational robotics has been set up with the aim of fostering the development of technical skills. It is aimed at primary and secondary school pupils and is open to schools in Chinautla.
The Pedro Poveda Foundation for Holistic Education and Human Development, which has been active since 1997, aims to “promote high-quality primary and secondary education for children and young people at risk of educational exclusion in the municipality of Chinautla, Guatemala, through a gender and human rights-based approach”.
