Last November 2024, the Zbierski Library at Bethlehem University was the setting for a truly unforgettable event: the launch of the book The Tapestry of My Life’s Journey, written by Elaine J. Rumman. Elizabeth D´Souza, Library Director and TA member reports.
The launch of The Tapestry of My Life’s Journey, a powerful and inspiring book by the remarkable 94-year-old author, Ms. Elaine J. Rumman, brought together a community eager to honor her extraordinary life. A woman whose passion for reading and writing has spanned decades, Ms. Elaine, continues to inspire those around her with a journey marked by resilience, wisdom, and an unyielding commitment to lifelong learning.
What made the event truly remarkable was that we touching on three generations of Palestinian women —Ms. Elaine, her daughter Ms. Maha Saca, and her granddaughter, Dr. Iman Saca, Academic Vice President at Bethlehem University. Together, they represent a legacy of strength, intellect, and resilience that spans generations. These women embody the richness of Palestinian culture, the perseverance of its people, and the power of storytelling to connect and inspire. They remind us of the enduring impact of women who dare to dream, who fight for their voices to be heard, and who pass down their wisdom to future generations. Their incredible work —whether in education, literature, or family life— has created a ripple effect of positive change in their community and serves as an inspiration to others.

The power of storytelling
Ms. Elaine’s daughter, Ms. Maha, delivered a heartfelt tribute to her mother, honoring the woman who shaped not only her life but the lives of countless others. She shared touching reflections on her mother’s ability to turn life's challenges into opportunities for growth and learning. The audience was moved as Ms. Maha spoke of her mother's dreams, struggles, and triumphs, emphasizing how her mother’s strength and wisdom have been the foundation for their family’s values.
Dr. Iman, in turn, highlighted the enduring influence of her grandmother and mother on her own life and career. She spoke of how her grandmother’s journey —completing her education and earning a Master’s degree at the age of 51—continues to inspire not only her own academic pursuits but also those of the broader community.
The event fostered an intimate, emotional atmosphere where personal stories were shared, connections were strengthened, and admiration for Ms. Elaine’s enduring spirit flourished. It became clear that the book launch was more than just a celebration of literature —it was a tribute to a life well-lived and the timeless power of storytelling.
Ms. Elianne Rumman passed away peacefully on December 11th, just days after the successful launch of her book. Her work received thousands of heartfelt comments and appreciation from around the world, bringing her immense joy in her final days. She died happy and fulfilled, leaving behind a legacy of inspiration and hope for generations to come.
