The Alfalar Social and Educational Centre in Oviedo held an open day to allow residents of the neighbourhood where it is located, La Corredoria, to learn about its activities.
This activity was held on 31 May and it was one of the events organised for the Centenary of the Pontifical Approval of the Teresian Association.
The history of Alfalar 
Alfalar is a social and educational centre that was founded in 1978. It was the initiative of a group of people from the TA who proposed opening a cultural and leisure centre for young people in the city centre. In 1989, it moved to the Corredoria neighbourhood where it has been operating for almost 35 years. The cultural association L'Abeyera gives legal support to the Centre.
The area has changed over time. In 1989 it had about 3,000 residents, but now there are almost 20,000. It is the youngest neighbourhood in the municipality and 19% of the population is under 20 years of age. It is also very diverse as 42 different nationalities live here. Currently, the Alfalar Social and Educational Centre and 22 other entities are coordinated together under a neighbourhood platform.

During the ceremony, the president of L'Abeyera, Amalia Álvarez Vega, expressed her gratitude and acknowledged the work of the team of professionals, volunteers, trainees and members.
The evaluator Pablo Antonio Castañón Fernández, as representative of the Club Excelencia en Gestión, was also present to present the EFQM quality seal to the president of L'Abeyera.
“This seal is a boost for Alfalar to continue working with quality and innovation. Our aim is to contribute to creating a fairer and more humane society. We hope that what we have learned will help us to improve our personal lives and those of the people who come into contact with Alfalar's activities,” concluded Amalia Álvarez.
