On July 26, 2026, the Teresian Association Iloilo joyfully held the Encuentro Povedano at the Josefa Segovia Student Center (JSSC) in commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Pedro Poveda, founder of the Teresian Association and witness to education as a path of transformation. The gathering highlighted Poveda’s enduring vision that education can shape persons and society through faith, values, and service.
The celebration began with a prayer, setting a reflective and prayerful tone for the activity. This was followed by the welcome remarks and the acknowledgment of participants.
Around 80 participants attended the event, representing St. Pius School, St. Joseph Regional Seminary, West Visayas State University, University of San Agustin, Friends of Poveda, Siervas de San Jose, family members, friends, colleagues, Puluy-an TA, and JSSC residents. Their presence affirmed the spirit of communion and shared mission that continues to animate the Teresian Association.

An overview of the activity was presented and the introduction of the resource speaker was delivered. The highlight of the program was the talk of Msgr. Ramon 'Nonoy' Masculino, Jr. on the theme “Education as Evangelization: Saint Pedro Poveda’s Vision to Transform Society.”
His talk was deeply insightful and interpellating. He emphasized the foundational values of education: Bayanihan (sense of community), Paggalang(showing respect) , and Malasakit(genuine concern), and invited everyone to look again at the realities of contemporary education in the light of the challenges of the digital divide, the mental health of young people, and the urgent need for value-based formation so that no one will be left behind. In his message, he reminded the participants that teachers are apostles of Christ and challenged everyone with the question, “Quid nunc? What now?” as a call to recognize that education is everyone’s accountability.
The program was brought to a close with the closing remarks. The Eucharist followed, deepening the spiritual meaning of the gathering and anchoring the celebration in thanksgiving and mission.
The activity ended with a sumptuous refreshments and fellowship, leaving the participants renewed in spirit and strengthened in their commitment to Poveda’s vision of education that evangelizes, transforms, and serves the common good.
