The hermitage of Our Lady of Sorrows in Lanzarote, Canaries, hosted a thanksgiving Mass on 10 May to celebrate the centenary of the pontifical approval of the Teresian Association.

Patron Saint of Lanzarote

The celebration was arranged by members and friends of the Teresian Association, present in the Canary Islands since 1968.

The auxiliary bishop of the island, Cristóbal Déniz Hernández, presided and three other priests concelebrated with him.

During the homily the bishop invited us to look at the life of Pedro Poveda, a witness of faith, not only for the Association but for all Christian people. He said that Poveda was “remembered as a great person who remained faithful to principles that made individuals, families and peoples grow better; he shaped a better world than the one he had found.”

The words of introduction, the songs and the presentation on the origins of the TA, energised the celebration. “It was a special afternoon in which Pedro Poveda was present and, to the sound of the rumba dedicated to him, members, friends and supporters took up the baton to continue his work,” said Juan López, one of the attendees.
