The Poveda Center in Miami in the United States celebrated the day of Pentecost with a special event in the framework of the centenary of the pontifical approval of the Teresian Association.
The event was very well attended according to the organisers, and brought together people of all ages. “There was a great response. People from all corners of the city were arriving from Broward County to the north of Miami and from different parts of the city in the early hours of the morning. There were also young people who made the welcome even more lively,” said Francisco Porrata, a member of the organising team.
Celebration
The celebration began with words of welcome by Patricia Stockton and the showing of the video on the TA Centenary. This was followed by Mass presided by the Carmelite priest Francisco Javier Sancho Fermín.
In his homily he asked those present what they knew about the Holy Spirit and words such as love, joy, companion, friend, God and support, and phrases such as “the one who always accompanies us” and “to whom we can always turn”.
Javier Sancho then said that the Gospels “never theorise about who God is or who the Spirit is, but show us how to relate to this God and this Spirit.” After these words, the participants divided into three small groups to share the homily and discuss.
Workshop and festive spirit
After Mass, Aida Varela led a workshop on the family in which all those present ended up making a bandana (headband) out of coloured paper with the tongues of fire of the Spirit, to commemorate the day.
“It was a wonderful celebration”, said Thania Cespedes from the event's organising team. “Our intention was to celebrate the family gathering of Pentecost within the framework of the centenary, and I think we achieved our objectives: we opened our house and shared the TA charism in a warm atmosphere of unity where joy reigned.”
