The University Residence in Montevideo is sailing along with the young women

In the context of the centenary of the pontifical approval of Teresian Association, the University Residence of Montevideo (Uruguay), continues to celebrate various meetings and activities.

This University Residence commemorated, in September 2023, 80 years of accompanying the formation of young professionals. Combining this event and the centenary of the pontifical approval of the TA, they continue to celebrate the commitment of St. Pedro Poveda for women and young people, knowing that “for everyone there is a moment in life and this, well spent, is often the beginning of happiness”.

With the conviction that this is a significant moment in the lives of university students, a time of searching for new horizons, of human and vocational orientation, the programme of the Residence seeks to give meaning to professional work. For this, it is committed to the communitarian value of living together in the midst of the personal references of our times and, above all, to accompanying the human growth of the young women based on the principles of Christian humanism.

Dreams fulfilled

At the beginning of the school year, the integration camp and the family gathering were held. In both instances, we worked with the symbol of sailing. With the residents, we spent a weekend in a house by the sea, to get to know each other, to build the group better and the commitments of ‘sailing’, which has its personal and collective dimension.

The same experience was replicated a month later with the families to share a day of fellowship and encounter. The emphasis of the day was on the sharing of testimonies and intergenerational exchanges in small groups that reflected similar goals and accompanied each other along the way. Letting children grow up with a demand that invites and does not stifle, sharing challenges and fears, dreams and values that sustain personal plans and encourage commitment to the world we live in this election year in the country, were some of the issues that were addressed.
