In the Metropolitan Cathedral of La Paz, Bolivia, a thanksgiving Mass was celebrated on Saturday 4 May to commemorate the centenary of the pontifical approval of the Teresian Association.
The Mass was presided by Archbishop Percy Galván of the Archdiocese of La Paz and Bishop Fernando Bascopé, Auxiliary of the Diocese of San Ignacio de Velasco and president of the Education Sector of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference.
The Teresian Association in Bolivia
The presence of the Teresian Association in Bolivia began in 1943. Ana María García, delegate of the Teresian Association in Bolivia, said that “The members of the Teresian Association carry out the mission in La Paz, Cochabamba, Sucre, Santa Cruz and Trinidad. We contribute our grain of sand to help others lead dignified lives. We follow Poveda's proposal to be light and salt in the world, and commit ourselves to social transformation. Where there is receiving and giving, giving and receiving, we allow ourselves to learn from others and, in turn, to inspire others with confidence that is nourished by the Spirit.”
Recognition
The Catholic Church, through the Education Sector of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference, gave recognition to the Teresian Association in commemoration of its 100 years of Pontifical Approval:
“That the Teresian Association, with Pontifical Approval dated 11 January 1924, is an International Association of the Laity of the Catholic Church, created by the concern of the priest Pedro Poveda to live out the faith and contribute to human advancement and social transformation through education and culture.”
