On Tuesday 21 January 2025, the Teresian Association in Granada had a Mass of thanksgiving in the Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows to close the Centenary year. The celebration was presided by Archbishop José María Gil Tamayo and there were several concelebrants who are friends of the TA.

In his homily, Don José María spoke about Pedro Poveda, his priesthood and martyrdom and his great insights regarding the role of women, laity, faith and science, education and culture that led him to found the Teresian Association. Today's celebration, continued the Archbishop, is the Church saying yes to this charism that God placed in the heart of Pedro Poveda and which continues to give so much to the Church today.

They celebrated, remembered and expressed their gratitude for the one hundred years of life and mission of the TA here and in places all over the world.

Personal accounts

We could see how much affection there is and recognition of all that the members of the Teresian Association do in society and in the church. A former student told us, ‘I believe that I was a good teacher and I owe that to the TA members, their educational methods, their training courses and their way of transmitting the task of education with enthusiasm’. A priest said that ‘It has been a joy to celebrate with you; do not stop because the charism of Poveda is still relevant and alive.’

The family atmosphere, the closeness, the affection, and the many supports received and experienced in each of the activities and celebrations, have given us great impetus to continue to give responsibly all that we have freely received.

Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, encourages us in our faith and we look to the future with hope and a desire to rekindle our lay vocation in a synodal Church. In collaboration with more people with whom we are in contact, we will continue to share the charism and open up paths of hope and evangelisation.
