On January 10, in the city of Burgos in Spain, a Mass of thanksgiving was held to conclude the celebrations commemorating the Centenary of pontifical approval of the Teresian Association.
The parish of San Cosme y San Damián hosted the celebration to recognise and give thanks for a charism that has guided and given meaning to the lives of so many people throughout its more than one hundred years. The Mass was an occasion to renew the commitment of the TA in Burgos and to accompany those who are searching for meaning in their lives.
The celebration brought together many people connected to the Association -- members, family, friends, alumni and co-workers.
The archbishop of Burgos, Mario Iceta Gavicagogeascoa, presided at the Mass. He was accompanied by the archbishop emeritus, Fidel Herráez Vegas, and the bishop emeritus of Jaén, Ramón del Hoyo López, who is from Burgos.
To put into practice
In his homily, Archbishop Iceta focused on the Gospel reading (Matthew 5: 13-16), in which Jesus asks his followers to be salt and light of the world. The archbishop encouraged those present to put this request into practice in their lives, and pointed out how the Teresian Association, always connected to education, is an example of being salt and light in the world.
The TA in Burgos carries out its mission in the field of education in the diocesan school of Santa María la Nueva y San José Artesano and in public schools; in the Neila Programme for personal and social development; in the Youth for Education movement; as well as in cooperation and development activities through the NGO InteRed. There are also individuals active in Caritas, parishes and other entities.
After Mass, people greeted each other with words of thanks, and then they made their way to the parish hall for hot chocolate, always welcome in the cold of Burgos.
