The Sports Meeting of the Teresian Association, EDIT 2024, swas held this year in Guadix (Granada, Spain) from 9 to 13 May.
Throughout four intense days, four hundred and fifty students and sixty teachers from TA schools in Spain and Ireland participated in this experience of interaction through sport.
This year's theme was “With Poveda in Guadix”. After marching through the city, the event was inaugurated in the Plaza de la Ermita Nueva, in the neighbourhood of the Caves.
The principal of the Padre Poveda School in Guadix, Antonio Jabalera, thanked the authorities of the Teresian Association of Spain and various local civil authorities and the parish priest of the Shrine, Manuel Amezcua, for their presence.
Mr. Jabalera said that “The origin of the Teresian Association began in these hills, among the people here, in the caves, in this beautiful square. Right here, in this centenary year of the pontifical approval of the Teresian Association, the entire Teresian family of the schools of Spain and Ireland are happy to be together sharing the emotions that come with sport”.
Cultural visit
After this first event, the EDIT meeting continued with the programme which included cultural visits, a tour of places linked to St Pedro Poveda and competitions in different sports. There were team sports, alternative sports and athletics, all of which were conducted in a spirit of teamwork, collaboration and solidarity.
Eucharist
During the EDIT there was a special time for the celebration of faith in the Mass presided by Bishop Francisco Jesús Orozco. He received the young people in the Cathedral and told them, “You are the present and also the construction of the future”, and he invited them to live out their faith in the Poveda way.
The mass ended with the “Rumba a Poveda” performed by its author, Elia Fleta, and accompanied by all the participants.
The EDIT concluded with a cultural event and recognition of the schools and the various authorities present. As a final touch, the Padre Poveda School in Guadix presented the Olympic flag to the Arrels School of Barcelona as they will organise the EDIT in 2025.
