The University of San Agustin, Iloilo City, Philippines, celebrates its 120th founding anniversary with “Bugal awards”. Four members of the Teresian Association, alumni of this university, have received the award.
The University of San Agustin in Iloilo City, Philippines, is the oldest university in the Western Visayas, founded in 1904. The Teresian Association has been so blessed with many members, coming from different towns and cities of the Philippines, who studied at this University.
Throughout 2024-2025, the University of San Agustin has been celebrating its 120th Founding Anniversary with the prestigious Bugal Awards 2024, with the theme “A Gift”. ‘Bugal’ is a Hiligaynon word which means pride. The University of San Agustin Bugal Awards confer honor to Augustinian Alumni who have been nominated by Augustinian Staff or Alumni and selected by the corresponding Colleges and Departments for having exemplified the virtues, ideas and wisdom of St. Augustine as seen in their significant contribution to their respective professions and transformation of persons and society.
Outstanding alumni
I quote from the letter sent to the Awardees: “It is with immense pride and joy that we invite you to the Bugal Awards Ceremony where we will honor you as one of the outstanding alumni of the University of San Agustin. Your achievements and contributions have left an indelible mark on our institution, reflecting the values of excellence and commitment. You have truly embodied the Augustinian Graduate Attributes, serving as a role model for our students and colleagues alike”.
Four members of the Teresian Association received the Bugal Awards from the following Colleges and Departments:
- Dr. Erna C. Arollado, College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology, awarded on March 22, 2025.
- Dr. Madonna S. Palmes, College of Nursing and Nutrition and Dietetics – Nursing Program awarded on February 21, 2025.
- Ms.Eloisa O. Sebastian, College of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Education awarded on October 15, 2024.
- Dr. Salvacion E. Villavicencio, Basic Education Department – Elementary and High School awarded on July 14, 2024.
