The InteRed Foundation organised the webinar ‘How to communicate equality with coherence and impact’, which reflected on how to make visible the real progress of the equality plan in companies and create a true culture of care in the workplace.

webinar intered igualdad comunicarAitziber Barrueta, Executive Director of InteRed, NGDO of the Teresian Association, began the digital meeting, held on 22 May, in which around fifty people participated. She stressed that communicating equality always implies coherence and has to do with what is lived in companies. She also stressed the idea that social change in these cases comes from ‘within the companies themselves’.

Elena Alfageme, Head of Gender at InteRed Foundation, who first explained how the Equality Plan has been implemented in the organisation, assured that it is key to eliminate imbalances between men and women in access to work and, internally, in companies. In the same way, she emphasised that if people feel good at work, they are motivated, emotional and, therefore, their work performance improves. She also referred to the importance of inclusive language and how it is used at InteRed.

Sonia Ruiz, Founder and Director of the communication consultancy agency PrideCom, detailed how companies should act when communicating their equality plan. ‘It is essential to listen and to build with the teams, as well as with the management’. She agreed with Elena Alfagame, stressing that ‘the culture of care has a great impact on staff’.

The last speaker was Rosario Jiménez, Consultant and Head of HR at Fundacion InteRed, who explained the current regulatory situation regarding the implementation of an equality plan. On the other hand, she added that from her point of view, this plan is a participatory tool that can be built every day. ‘It basically consists of gathering the voice of the people and seeing how to improve their daily lives,’ she said.

To conclude, a brief dialogue began with questions from the audience, reflecting what these meetings are for InteRed Foundation, and which Aitziber Barrueta defined as follows: ‘A space for adding perspectives and sharing’.
